The city of Savannah was quite a city. It was the first settlement in Georgia and was established by the British by the permission of King George II. The plans of this great place was actually designed by Oglethorpe's deceased friend, the architect we know as John Castell. Georgia was actually the first planned out settlement in the New World. It was established in 1733 and was the 13th and final edition to the original 13 colonies. Oglethorpe had gotten permission from two people to build the city. The first was the Yamacraw chief known as Tomochichi and other was King George II like I said. Most of the colonial period of Savannah was very interesting especially the many different number of foreign people that came to settle here. Most of these were religious groups, and other were just other foreign groups. Some of these groups came with the same purpose as the Britsh did to start a new life na dothers had decided to settle here because they were being prosecuted by their home countries for being Protestant. Most of these groups had to be thankful for getting new homes right off the bat there. Savannah became a very important city in Georgia's early history as it had stooped low and rose high into glory throughout history.
